Alaska Land ClaimsGovernment Land Claims: Not so far removed from the Alaska homestead programs of the 1970s, today Alaska residents can still stake out a claim to state land for a remote recreational cabin. The DNR offers this land through the revised Remote Recreational Cabin Site Program on an as available basis. Individuals stake a parcel of land, lease it as a cabin site until it is surveyed, and then purchase the land at fair market value. Participants can stake out from 5 to 20 acres for their personal land claim. Land sale areas are designed for low-densities of people and are located on or off the road system. In order to participate, Alaska residents must win a staking authorization in the Remote Recreational Cabin Program Lottery drawing. The state encourages all Alaskans to take advantage of this historic land offering before it disappears forever. The program is limited to Alaska Residents with no less then one full year of residency. |
